Julie McGough enjoys a multifaceted career as a much sought after soloist, orchestral musician and teacher. She is currently Principal Flute in the McKeesport Symphony and Second Flute in the Westmoreland Symphony, as well as a frequent substitute with the Wheeling Symphony, Pittsburgh Opera, Broadway shows at the Byham and many other regional orchestras. In 2004 Julie was presented in her New York Solo Debut Recital at Carnegie Hall in NYC by Artists International Inc., as a winner of their 2003 competition. In this recital she also premiered the piece 9 Walks Down 7th Avenue by Daniel Dorff, which was written for Mrs. McGough's debut recital. Julie received her BFA in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University as a student of Jeanne Baxtresser and received her MM in Flute Performance at the Manhattan School of Music as a student of Linda Chesis. Other major teachers include Jennifer Conner (Pittsburgh Symphony), Alberto Almarza (CMU faculty) and Stephanie Mortimore (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). Mrs. McGough currently has her own private flute studio in Pittsburgh, PA and is the Adjunct Professor of Flute at Washington and Jefferson College. Julie is married to trumpeter and teacher, Stephen McGough and they have 2 creative and fun girls.
